How to deal with effect previewing in Vegas 5

I have just started with Vegas 5 and when I put a text event on another picture which is in another track (for exemple a name for an interview) I can't see that writing in my external monitor and when I play it, the picture is in freeze and only start moving after the text event.
I have the same type of problem with effects. If I apply an effect to a picture (color correction for exemple) I can see the effect in the viedo preview but I can't see it in my external monitor (even when the external monitor button is activated).
What I am doing wrong?

Have you turned off "Recompress Frames" in your Options/prefs/video dialog? It should be on, not off. Otherwise, Vegas can't show you anything that is no longer 4:1:1 video on the external monitor.
