I'm not quite sure what you mean by timed, but...

If you want to record audio directly into Vegas at a specific time and for a specific duration, you might consider a keyboard macro program. I use RemoteKeys for this kinda stuff. It could press the buttons for whatever, whenever you want it to.

Create a new project, new audio track, arm for record. Make sure loop is "off".

Make a time selection of the duration you wish to record.

It won't let me select more than 00:02:00:00.

It's not letting you create a time selection larger than the default project length. To fix, create an empty event and move it out past the desired length.

The "Edit Details" window will let you type in a start time for that event directly.
