How to dynamically change text in nested project?

Hello, I created nested timeline which contains 3 tracks (background, png border and text). Border and text have few 3d track motion keyframes.

In parent timeline I create few copies of nested event. Now my target is create unique content of the text in each copy, but when I change it in one, it's obviously chaning in other copies too. I understand that I can extract text event from nested timeline and create unique ones in parent timeline, but it's not convenient, because you will have to add track motion keyframes to each of them. Also I don't want to create unique copies of nested project for each different text event because then it will not have any sense to use nested project at all.

Is there any way how you can dynamically change text in nested project without affecting unique copies?

I regret to inform you that you're likely to have to make copies of your nested projects, give each one a unique name, make your changes and replace the current versions of the nested projects in Project Media of your Parent project.

I can think of two ways:

  1. One project per title so each project is different (the same project copied over and over again to get you the titles you need) which each nested separately (which is what john_dennis just said.)
  2. Open the title project, change the title, render it to a new file, and then use that rendered file instead of nesting. Create a new render for each title

If you nest the same file over and over again, you're going to get the same content over and over again. They can't be changed individually.

I am probably old-school, but I have never been able to wrap my head around nested timelines, though I am sure they have their use, other than maybe for an image, watermark, or something else that does not change.

Here is what I do – I have a template.veg that contains my titles, lower-thirds with key frames/masks, etc., and an adjustment layer with my LUT and basic colour adjustments.

I open the template instance and copy-paste the objects into my active project.

With that I can create new copies of my text and masks, and position/edit as appropriate.

Perhaps it’s slightly more tedious, but for me, it does achieve some consistency.

@freddy33

The your way of doing it is, you're creating copies on the VP timeline but each one is ref to a single nest project file in your windows folder, therefore each time you change one on the timeline you're updating/changing that single nest project file in your windows folder & so the other copies updates themselves accordingly.

Make your nested timeline project & call it 'orig' or something, then make as many copies of that file in your windows folder as you need & rename each appropriately, If you need more just copy n paste the orig. Drag each one to the timeline & edit as wanted.

PS. this is the same as @john_dennis & @jetdv said but I don't think people associate the word 'project' with a nested timeline event/object.

Hello everyone! Thanks a lot for your help!

The method with copying projects isn’t the most aesthetical, but first of all, the result is important, so I will use it.
