How to fix focus in post.

During the shooting of Day Watch they had a problem with the 'other world' sequences. These were shot in low light and focus was a real problem, quite regularly it went quite a ways off the mark.
Solution was simple, when the original shot goes out of focus composite in clouds of in focus mosquitos.

The trick is further enhanced by a few lines of dialogue along the lines of:
"Did you hear them when you were in there?"
"Hear what?"
"The mosquitos, didn't you hear them?"

Excellent movie too, trailor for Day Watch:

Bob.

Gee, and I thought you were going to have some new fantastic technique for bringing things back into focus in post. You would be worth millions.

Works the same for stills. A nice sharp arrow graphic helps give the impression that something is in focus.

...or any foreground object...

I like the mosquitoes though :O).

The technology exists. Fourier transforms and access to the original optics, coupled with today's supercomputers, can reconstruct the original scene that generated the out-of-focus images. Not for the impecunious or faint of heart.

Of course. It's just that my life is mostly about arrows.

(sigh)

It's always a bummer being impecunious.
