HOW TO FREEZE A TRANSITION?

VIDEOGRAM wrote on 2/22/2003, 10:32 AM
Hi,

I am new to VEGAS. I want to produce an effect and don't know how to do it. I want to do a split screen from a soft linear wipe transition but I can't stop the transition. I would also like to start a transition between 2 clips and stop it at 75%.
In Premiere, this was a simple task. How do we achieve this in VEGAS?

Hi,

There are a few ways to do it, but two ways are found at the Split-Screen tutorials below:

I've tried to go to your web page with no success. It won't open.

You might also want to go to Pixelan.com and check out their SpiceMaster 2. I was a beta tester and you can stop, stall, and reverse transitions very easily. Try the free demo offered.

BTW: I am pretty sure this was Marty's site, if you have your cookies blocked you won't get on. Marty, if this is correct can that be changed? Thanks.

Hi,

I have looked at PIXELAN's software and will certainly purchase it in the future ... but I am not willing to invest 200$ at the moment. Is it possible to set a transition to 50% and keep it there?

to freeze it you could also stop at the point you would like to freeze. Then on the preview screen click save as, then import the picture. You could try setting the velocity envelope to zero also, i'm not sure if this would stop the transition though. Hope i helped

I think I got misunderstood. Image 1 is rolling. Then, I do a 3 seconds soft wipe transition to image 2. I want to stop this transition in the middle to create a split screen.
In PREMIERE, I would do a transition, set the beginning at 0% and the end at 50%.

what you really want is a split screen not a transition. you can do this by animating the pan/crop window. read the help or manual on keyframes or check out a tutorial.

you could also animate a mask to accomplish this. lot's of stuff in the manual/help on that too.

Hi,

You will need to accept cookies and enable javascript to access the site... they won't bite.

Haven't tried it but I think track motion can be used to wipe between the two tracks and then a keyframe to stop the motion.

Here is a veg that does what you want using only three tracks.

Sadly, Vegas does not do this as easily as it sounds like Premiere does it.

I hope this helps.

Here is a two track veg file as was suggested by Dirk.

I also posted a three track variation in another post.

Hope this helps,

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your time and efforts. But it's not IT. I've downloaded the trial version of PIXELAN 2.0. It does exactly the effect I want. I guess every software has its limitations although VEGAS is very powerfull, more powerfull I feel than PREMIERE, FCP or AVID's Xpress DV.
