How to get full screen preview?

I am using Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum with a single monitor. Windows 7 64-bit.

The only way I have found to get a full screen preview on the monitor is to change the preview to the "'full" option in the drop-down at the top of the preview window (for example, Good/Full), then un-dock the window and re-size it by dragging the borders with the mouse until it fills the screen. Then when I want to stop previewing and see the time line again, I have to re-dock the window and change the preview size to one that will display the entire picture within the window, for example Good/Quarter.

The help file seems to imply that clicking the "External Monitor" button at the top of the preview window will toggle full screen preview on and off when only one monitor is attached. But clicking on that button does nothing except select it. The video still plays within the small docked window. So I must be misinterpreting what the help file is saying.

Is there a way to get a quick full screen preview and then quickly go back to having the preview window docked so I can see the other windows (time line, explorer, etc.)?

First you need to right-click in your preview window and select "Preview Device Preferences".

Then select "Windows Secondary Display" as your Device.

Once that has been done, each time you click "External Monitor" your screen will go to full-screen preview.

Thanks for the reply. However, "Windows Secondary Display" was already selected in "Preview Device Preferences".

Check that your current monitor is listed under "Display Adapter" and click "Identify Displays" which should superimpose a number (probably "1") on your screen.

The monitor was listed, and "Identify Displays" did display a big green "1" on the monitor.

While I was in the "Preview Device Preferences" dialog, I decided to click on "Device Defaults" at the bottom, just to see what would happen. That fixed it - now full screen preview works!

Thanks for taking the time to respond and for pointing me in the right direction.

i too want to toggle with a hotkey bw work sessions and half screen or larger preview and back.

to recap:
1. right-click in your preview window and select "Preview Device Preferences" which opens in preferences > preview device tab where i get lost can't move to step 2.
2. select "Windows Secondary Display" as your Device.
3. click on "Device Defaults" at the bottom.
now, each time you click "External Monitor" your screen will go to full-screen preview.

I have three screens. I'm trying to make screen two the preview window, but all I can get is a quarter of the screen to show. I've tried every I can think of!
