How to get Nokia Phone Video into Vegas

PeterWright wrote on 10/14/2006, 5:06 PM
I'm hoping to incorporate a few short video clips shot on a Nokia Mobile Phone.

They are originally in .3gp format, which will only play in the Nokia Software. This same software has the ability to Save as .mp4, but again this will only play in the Nokia Software - not in Media Player or Vegas.

Any ideas how to get this into Vegas?

Thanks.

Is this Nokia video already on your computer?

If so... try to open it in QT then export from there.
If not QT... try Squeeze, Cleaner, or any other Encoder/Transcoder to see if they will open/export your file.

Does the Nokia software have an export option?

It doesn't have an export function as such, but does have the "Save as", where the options are .3gp or .mp4.

When I try to open the mp4 files, The QT player starts up, but then produces an error message saying it can't play the file.

I'll investigate the Squeeze and Cleaner suggestions ....

Thanks for the suggestion - I downloaded River Past Video Cleaner, and it converted 3gp clips to avi, and they're now on the Vegas timeline.

Peter, 3gp clips from my 6230i Nokia phone have always played fine in Quicktime and dropped onto the Vegas timeline as they are.

Maybe you need a newer version of Quicktime which includes the codec?

Thanks Nick

You're right - I updated to the latest QT Player and it does play .3gp's, but they still don't drop onto the Vegas7 timeline - however the Saved As .mp4 versions do, so I needn't have got the Video Cleaner, though no doubt it will be handy from time to time.
