How to highlight and follow text in a Power Point

Hi,

Is there an easy way to higlight lines of text in a Power Point and move the highlight around as the narrator goes from topic to topic? I've seen some nice examples where the text remains brighter and the surrounding area gets darker. Also I've seen some where the text is clear but the surroundings are blurry. I imagine Vegas can do this with multiple layers of the same video and some masking but maybe there is a faster way of doing it with a plug-in or different type of software (Camtasia comes to mind). Anybody have experience with this?

Use one of the free online presentation solutions instead of PPT..
10,000,000 students can't be wrong.

Unfortunately, PPT is what we use at my work (government) so I have to figure it out. We make lots of PPT videos using PPT 10 that include narrations. We would like to highlite the text and either darken or blur the surroundings.

..actually, I think I just figured it out. Here's what seems to work:

Put identical tracks on top of each other
Blur and darken the top track then cut a rectangular hole in it using a negative mask and move it around as needed. That should do it!

No need to double up tracks, if you are using VegasPro 12 or 13. Use a single track and within the Mask Controls you can now "confine" an FX to THAT mask. Very useful!

Grazie, great suggestion! I found the control at the very top of the MASK CONTROLS called "Apply an FX" yes/no. These forums sure do work.

Powerpoint was the most oversold POS in the history of computing.

No, I think that title goes to Word, with Excel a close second.

Actually, those two are useful in a business environment.
Not so with PPT, as it is not portable to other formats.
