How to insert text in new build

Not that long ago I remember this to be easy: Under Insert select insert text. Now the word text is ghosted. So what has to be done to bring this command back to life?

I figured it out after posting because it does sort of make sense but I still prefer the previous way when the word "text" appeared not ghosted straightaway.
