How To Load Camera Chip AVI

Can someone tell me how to load .avi video files from camera chips to the Vegas timeline?

A client sent me a file like this and it won't load, it simply tells me the "video stream attributes could not be determined." I thought this was odd, and looked at some of the ones I had on my computer from my daughter's camera, and sure enough, the same thing. They'll play just fine in Windows Media Player, but the only thing that will load onto the Vegas timeline is the audio portion of the video.

Can someone explain how to load these up properly? Thanks!

You don't have the proper codec installed for vegas to handle this. Do a search on this forum with terms like digital camera memory card. I had to work with footage like this and as I recall is was mjpeg and required a free (trial) codec to download. Quality is likely to be poor.

Quality can be very good - of cause depending on the camera.

I use the codec from Morgan Multimedia: http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/

They have a free trial
