How to make a badly jumping video usable

Hi, is there a way to make video that is jumping really badly still usable? I have a clip filmed with a DLSR from a canoe and the waves and use of long zoom make the video quite badly jumpy.

For example, is there a way to make Vegas follow certain point in the video (for example a seal head), make that the center of the video and cut everything around that so that the video would be steady?

I hope I explained the situation clearly enough.

I would recommend Prodad Mercalli, although its a extra paid plugin, it is my go-to tool for heavy stabilizing tasks such as what you have described.

Yup! Merc all the time. If you can supply a sample I could show you what it can do, in the Canoe, Cando!!

You can also try the two in-built stabilizers, there is one called legacy which is in the depreciated features tab (it is actually Mercalli ver 2), it is my favourite for minor shake. All are likely to have some artefacts or warp distortion with very high levels of shake. Likely to need a fair bit of trial/error to get the best result.
