How to make a photo 3d?

Yes it was for you...I just clicked on your name, then the forum said "click on user name to send email" which I did..I guess it went to cyber space.

Going thru part 1, but I have a nagging bug with PS where the photoshop hand gets stuck and I can't pick any of the tools. A quick search on google says to reboot (rrrrrrr), which works, but it's occurring too often.

I'll let you know, thanks

Okay..here comes my questions ..:)

Q1: How did you import all the three images into vegas?
In PS I have 3 images saved under 1 psd file, did you have to save each pics separately or does vegas do a good job in opening a psd with the 2 pics?

q2: In part 1, do you have to remove the red if you have already masked the pic?

Thanks

Another little question

Q3: I'd like to take the 3 pics and rotate them all together, I know it has something to do with the parent track + 3D option in Track motion, but can't quite get it right.

I'm making progress..so far soo good

Never mind q3, it's called Parent Motion..located it.

Hello Julius,
Q1: yes... I thought I had indicated that at the end of part 1...
hide all the layers except the one you want to save... then save it as a png by itself with the transparency... then you need to import them in as three individual images as shown in part 2 in the media bin.
Q2: yes, remove the mask by using the letter q before you save it in the end of part 1... the red just indicates the masking area as you work to create the selection.

Hello Julius,
Q3: let me work on that - I'm more of an individual control kind of guy. It appears you're on the right track (no pun intended) with the collective movement.
I watched the Izzy video, by the way... through the link here in the forum... he is such a great teacher.

Hello Julius,
Q3: After quite a bit of trial and error and simply thinking about it, I don't think Vegas is capable of what the other packages offer for 3D...
My two main reasons:
1 - Vegas does not provide vertical or horizontal rotation. It permits tilting on an axis, but no rotation.
2 - Vegas does not permit the separation of each layer as provided by other packages. I did not try to create the effect in Pro Titler. Perhaps that might give us the ability to separate layers from each other and give the feeling of distance as well as permit things to be rotated... hmmmm. After all, one of the the first 3D packages presented on this forum is a titler package... Bluff Titler ... and at $50, I think I might go get a copy for myself... might be fun...

When I have more time, I might try it in the Pro Titler...

Until that time. . . Earl J.

I wrote it up here. I used Combustion because at the time After Effects' support for 3D was lacklustre.

1) vegas does allow rotation. Rotation on a 3D object is based upon the axis of the object. Rotation can go between -1800 & 1800 while orientation can only be between -360 & 360.

2)each track is a layer. You can do whatever you want to each individual track. To get depth you don't need Z position, you just need to shrink the size. If you want realistic movement in 3D space & have Vegas do all the math & figuring out for you then you'd want to use Z-position.

examples:

to get each layer separated you need to use parent 3d track motion AND make the parent track have 3d track motion.

Parent motion. . . how ingenious...

Hello Happy,
I knew a sure-fire way to get others involved was to make a blatantly outragerous claim and see who comes calling... thanks...

Your answer also appears to solve my question on another forum about making a character walk through the text (title)... hmmm... although, the examples are of flat still images - I wonder how it will work with video?

Most excellent... once I get the present project completed, I might very well go figure it out... and perhaps make yet another video tutorial... (grin)

shoot me an e-mail & I'll send you the project I made up, but since vegas treats everything the same (photos, gen media, video) you can put in whatever you wanted. Gen media just made it a little quicker to render.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 8/30/2009, 6:13 PM
BTW, I wasn't thinking you were making an outrageous claim... when you manipulate the view in 3d track motion it doesn't change the rotation, it changed the orientation. It took me a few mistakes to figure that one out. :)

Well I tried using this app, which looks like it has been abondoned but nonetheless still available for download. There are some tutorials but I cannot as of yet sort out how to peoperly use it.

Here is a video that highlights some cool effects you can do with it:

This is from one photo copied three times took 5 min to do

www.myvideo.co.za/video/3d-pan-from-2d-pic-in-sony-vegas

Mask the fore ground in Vegas and in 3d space move it forward to hid the original piece
Mask the middle ground and move it slightly forward the same
Leave the 3rd pic as is

Make a parent 3d bin and rotate that

You can do this with many types of photos I chose a city scene because in the city scene you can get away with murder
Pun intended

xfx: I can't access the video without signing up??

TheHappyFriar: I just fired off an email to you asking for the project file of sample 2 above if possible. I just can't see it working in Vegas. Parent motion was good but not good enough to make it appear in 3d (I used 3 layers for 1 pic).

So far, I have it working in AE, but if I can get acceptable results in Vegas....

Thanks guys!

Here is a another using waves and masking the waves , then layering them in 3d space
With a water droplet png and a boogie board png
And pan and rotate the parent 3d

I left the back small so as to see what’s up

This will give you a clearer picture.

It only takes a few minutes in Vegas

xfx, earlier I got the message that I had to sign up. Now it says the video doesn't exist.

Sorry deleted it

Here it is … http://www.myvideo.co.za/channels/xfx

had to add lights and stuff because we have already discussed this on another thread
And we are only allowed to talk over and over about interlaced and progressive stuff

So to keep this thread going I prefer progressive scan on 3d photo stuff anything to boot sucks
