I am sure lot of people watched the movie 2012. Any thoughts how to create the text effect that showed in that movie. Not worried about the font. But the way the characters move (zoom in)
I watched the Official Trailer. Just exactly what part of the Text are you referring to? Apart from the 3-D "2012" text there were some very simple, Vegas-doable gently zoom-ins and some simple use of flash or glow, nothing out of reach for Vegas. But what exactly are you referring to?
You need the elements around the text to create the fx
Create a 3d container and move it in z space from further back to near
In the parent container place the background = child 3d
Also place the text in the container 3d also child
When the main container has reached it nearest point to you move the text slightly forward
What you are perceiving is the change in 3d space the elements
relationship with each other
Check the end for layout
Simply put the text has moved closer to you in relationship with the objects lenses etc which has also moved closer to you but at a lesser pace
Oops, I thought I was replying to a different post where they were asking about the text showing one movie on top of another movie a'la the intro to Spin City.
At the simplest level you can use just Track Motion to create the smooth zoom in at the same time using the fade envelope to make them fade in. If the letters (or anything else for that matter) is coming "in" from a fair way from the viewer I also add Gaussian Blur with keyframes to create a faux DOF which adds to the illusion of the text moving towards the viewer.
