How to match a slideshow to music beats

I thought I had seen this somewhere? I searched the forums with no luck.
I would like like to match the stills in a slideshow with certain music beats.
Each still would very in length depending which music beat it is looking for.

Does anyone know if there is a script for this? or how to achieve this.

Ultimate S accomplishes this, and there is a free script on the VASST site as well, in the scripting pages. With both, you have to mark the beats yourself. There is nothing available that automatically senses the beats. You hit the "M" key to make markers at the beat points, and then Ultimate S or the free script does the rest.
With Ultimate S, you not only get images to beats, but you get pan/scan, reduced interlace flicker, matched aspect ratio, and user-defined transitions.

If you know the beats per minute, you can calculate how long to show each image. Then just import them with the right duration. Now this is very basic and will not do things like rapid cuts to peaks in the music etc.

As others have said Ultimate S is your friend. Take at look at what it can do for you.

I seem to recall taking some music and importing it into Acid and running it through the Beatmapper. ( hope Vegas incorporates a Beatmapper in future releases )

Then I save the audio file with the beatmapped info intact.

I open it in Vegas using the same beats per minute time format.
then Options-Ruler Format- Measures and beats..

then Options-Grid Spacing-(whatever speed you want to sync to the beat..quarter beat,8th notes, etc)

Make sure your first down beat hits a snapping point.

Enable Snapping and now as you add your clips, they ( should ) match to the beat.

...I think

So you CAN do the really rapid cuts with Ultimate S? Ex. Say I wanted to have a picture on every roll of a fast drum beat. Can I do that?

Actually, how does Ultimate do it faster. Do you cue up the pictures in the order you want and then press a button?

With Ultimate S, you could have a different picture on every frame count if you wanted. yes, you can have them be as tight as you like.
You can set the order of the pictures in advance on the timeline, you can set the order of the pictures in advance in the browser, or in the media pool. You can also have Ultimate S assign the order at random.

is the tutorial page for the Ultimate S photo montage tool.
