How to move files already used in a project?

I've got a bunch of video files and image files that I use in a project...

The files are all over the disk in different folders.

I've decided I want all the media I use in a project in the project folder so it can be archived, backedup, moved to another computer for rendering, etc.

But my Vegas project is already underway.

Some of the files can simply be moved. Others will requie a copy be put in the project folder... stock photos and stock footage for instance... we want to keep the entire libary of these in their regular folders... but put copies in the individual project folders so all the media for that project is there in one place.

My Question... how can we either move files or create copies of files for an ongoing project without confusing Vegas for a particular project?

IF I follow correctly - just close Vegas, and do the necessary organisation. Next time you start your vegas project - it will as kyou where your files have gone. Simply point it to the new locations, and resume working.

If I understand you, there is an easier way. Simply open your project, then enter the File:Save As command. You will see a box which says "Copy media with project". Tick this box, enter your destination, and all of your project and media files will be copied to that location. Once saved, it will then open the project file at the new location. Hope this helps.

Use the Vegas explorer to drag the media files to a new folder. This should also move the companion files (.sfk, .sfl, etc.) along with the media files. It will also update their location in your current project.

Thank's a zillion! This kind of feedback straight from the source is really appreciated, and also stops unnecessary speculation. It is also a nice (and welcome) indication that you are monitoring this great forum :)

Your hint solves also many of my persisting problems in rearranging files. I don't remember that I would have read about this special behaviour of the Vegas Explorer anyvwhere else.

This hint deserves to be honoured as a "tip of the month"!!! Really appreciated.
