Are you able to open an MJPEG file at all, or are you just concerned with the quality?

Alternatives might be picvideo (mjpeg or lossless), HUFFYUV, WMV without compression, even perhaps mpg2 with all I frames.

If you have MJPEG .avi files to begin with, don't convert them to something else, just get the Main Concept MJPEG codec (or the Matrox codec set) and you are ready to go.

I believe that will use Main Concept codec since Vegas include others of the same company and with them I have obtained good results.
