How to rename clips in media pool?

After capturing from tape I had the option to change the name of the captured clips. Unfortuantely I said no and all the clips have been automatically renamed as e.g. project001.avi, project002.avi, project003.avi ....etc. I now changed my mind and would like to rename them, also in sequence but instead of calling them e.g. project I would like to call them something else but still keep the 001, 002 003 etc. numbering. Is there a batch renaming that I could use withhout going through and changing all 300 of my clips one by one?

Hi Steve,

There is a 3rd party app called "RenameWiz" that should handle this easily:

From the readme:

>>>>" RenameWiz is NOT free. You may use and evaluate it for
up to 30 days, but to continue using it after that,
you must register to receive an "Unlock Code".

Secured online credit card registration can be done at the
RenameWiz Home Page at http://www.renamewiz.com"<<<<

This is a straightforward operation from a command prompt (DOS prompt):
* Shut down Vegas
* Open a command prompt (Click on Start > Run > then type in Command)
* At the command prompt CD to the directory where your clips are

Now, suppose all your clips are named Tape1-001.avi, Tape1-002.avi, etc, and you want them to be called Project-001.avi, Project-002.avi, etc. In the command prompt, type the following command:
rename Tape1-*.avi Project-*.avi

When you start Vegas back up, it will complain about not finding the avi files that it previously knew about, so you'll have to go get the media with the new names.

Hope this helps...
