How to render effects in a video event and then keep editing the video

oscarleethr25 wrote on 6/3/2018, 8:47 AM

Hi. Greetings from Mexico. 😀 My question is ¿How can I render a video event with effects in a new track without loss quality or loss the less quality possible to keep editing that event in the project? I need to process all the effects in my video event and then keep working with that video in my time line, but i dont want to loss any quality. ¿Is that possible? I read that theres something called "smart rendering" but i also read that that option doesn't work if you edit the video. ¿What can I do? Sorry for my poor and basic english. I know the option of "render in a new track" but i want to know wich format should i pick.

Not sure what you are asking. First some basics. Vegas works with media. Media files can be from a video camera or some other source. When you put a media file on your timeline, Vegas calls this an "event". You can edit this event or apply FX to this event. When you apply FX to an event (not the media), then your media remains as it was, and only the event on the timeline has the FX. When you apply FX to Media, then the Media will be altered (at least for that project file). If you are applying FX to an event on your timeline, you can simply add the same media to a different track on your timeline and it will appear as the original did, without any FX.

Are you applying the FX to the event? Or to the Media?

I apply the FX to an event.

I want to fussion that FX with the event, then watch that "fussion" in a new track and apply new FX's on it.

I know there's an option called "render in a new track", but I don't want to loss any quality.

¿What can I do?

You must render the part you want in the final output format to be able to trigger intelligent rendering. For example: If at the end of your edition you will be rendering to mp4 format, then you should render the videos with effects to Mp4 format. Doing so Vegas understands that the videos that are in the timeline of the project have already been rendered and will not do new compression. In some codec the message "No recompress required" appears. doing so there will be no loss of quality and the final video will be uniform.

What do you mean by fussion? Perhaps fusion? Or fashion? Maybe fission?

Are you talking about adding a chain of FX's to the same event? So you start with one FX, then add another one to the same event so both FX are happening to the same event?

Sorry about "fussion". I guess I mean "mix" (or combine? i dont know how to say it).

I want to mix the FX's with a video event, then watch that new "mix" in a new track as a new event. Then i want to do my final render, but I dont want to loss quality two times.

Joelson, i tried you're method but it doesnt appear the "No recompress required" in the preview window. I tried with the mainconcept format. Joelson, you are understanding my point. Thank you.

I just dont know how to solve it :(

That smart rendering does not work with mp4.

I think people do not understand why you'd like to render after adding your first FX. Just add another FX (if you need) and when you've done with editing the hole thing render it. Once. All FXex will be "applied" at once. This is normal workflow as if you'd like to adjust FX's settings you do not need to re-render all these intermediate files.

There are some circumstances when you really need the intermediate render. People use uncompressed or lossless (MagicYUV, UT Video Codec, HuffYUV, Lagarith)/visual lossless (Cineform Filmscan) encoders in this case. No image quality degradation caused by the intermediate compression would be in this case.

You can add as many effects as you want, one after another, on the same event. No need for a new track.

But if you really want to process it on another track, start a new project and place the current project on a track in the new project. You can nest Vegas projects, no need for any intermediate rendering.

Fifonik, you got it. I really need to do an intermediate render, but I dont know wich format use. My original file is a MPEG-4 (Quicktime) and my final file will be a MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 (mainconcept). When I click in "render to new track" this are my only options according with my project settings:

Is there any format there that I can use? What should I do?

Red prince, I believe that's not an option, because the FX's are still working in real time after nesting, so my preview window runs very slow.

- [optional] Install the lossles codec (UT Video if free and fast enough), restart Vegas

- 'render to new track', choose Video for Windows then choose any template

- Click 'Customize Template' button

- Type in your frame size, frame rate, pixel aspect ratio

- From Video Format dropdown choose Uncompressed or codec you just installed. For lossless codec you'll need to press 'Configure' button and configure the codec

- Type in Template name and press save template button with floppy disk at the top to be able to re-use the template

- Choose the template you created and press Render button

I use MagicYUV 2.0.0 in 8-bit RGB mode. It currently costs $9. The older, free version 1.2-rev2 also works OK and in my tests playback of both is smoother than UT Video Codec. They are both truly lossless.

Of the native Vegas formats, Sony XAVC Intra would probably be your best bet. It's slightly lossy, but not much, and it plays well in Vegas. Compare it with the original. It might be good enough for you.

In any case, be sure to match your source media properties, project properties, and render settings.

Regarding terminology, what you are rendering is a digital intermediate, often abbreviated to "DI" or just "intermediate".

Also, no format will smart render after an FX has been applied.
