How to render joined audio & video MPG

I am a new user to Vegas 6.0 Platinum. When I render a movie to burn to DVD, I get two files, video.mpg and audio.wav. These files are not conjoined into a single MPG file. Anyone know the render setting that would produce a single MPG file?

(Window Media player, will play back the MPG file but without the WAV audio. I would like to use the Media Player to play back the conjoined MPG file, which I will store to a data DVD in the MPG format.)

Thanks

If you want an MPEG file on a data disc, don't render for DVD. The two separate files are intended for authoring a video DVD using DVD Architect. It looks like you want to render a finished MPEG file instead, so don't use the DVD templates.

Thanks for the tip. Studio 9 makes a conjoined MPG file before writing it to DVD, I thought that this might be the case for Vegas. I'll look for the right command under rendering.

I am again posting a question on this subject. When I select Make a Movie and do not use a template but select "Save it to hard drive" Vegas renders the file as an .m2t file, which I understand is a "transport" file. (I am not sure what this is, except that it some kind of an intermediate file used in the editing process. ) I would like to make an .MPG file not a .m2t file. However, I note that Windows Media Player will play the .2mt file after saying it doesn't recognize the file extension.

Can anyone tell me which setting I can use to make a conjoined video and audio mpg file. I haven't found it yet.

Thanks

Both the Ulead editors work with M2T files natively and smart-render in that format. I wish Vegas did that, but it doesn't. You can render an overall M2T file, but it will take a long time and be second generation. To work with HDV in Vegas you either have to use Proxies with the VASST "Gearshift" script, or work with the Cineform intermediary codec.

Laurence, thanks for the response. Being new to Vegas and HDV editing, I wonder if you would be so kind to explain what Proxies is. Where does one find the "Gearshift" script or the Cineform intermediary codec? (What will it do?)

What do you mean by work with? Do you mean render to MPG?

Thanks again

Del, your questions are concerning "Movie Studio". There is a separate forum for Movie Studio. In this forum you'll get answers related to the full version of Vegas. For example, Gearshift is a script that works with Vegas but does NOT work with Movie Studio. With Vegas you have full control as to whether or not audio is included in the MPEG2 file simply by clicking on Custom in the "Render As" box. Your questions may be better answered in the other forum.

Okay, thanks I'll look into the other forum. I am using Movie Studio+DVD, Platinum Edition which has some of the premium features of Vegas 6c. The Platinum edition claims to handle HDV, but apparently there are still some useful features missing.
