How to replace a VOB file?

Hello

I made a wedding DVD and few months later I am asked to modify some stuff.

The modifs I have to do are all located in one VOB only (VTS_ 01_01.VOB) , a very short intro lenght: 1 min. 09 sec.

Using vegas 5 I dropped the VOB in the media pool, edited the video, saved as AVI and created a single movie DVD with Architect 1 which gave me a new VTS_ 01_01.VOB.

I dropped the new VTS_ 01_01.VOB in my original VIDEO_TS, replacing the old VTS_ 01_01.VOB and i burned the whole DVD using CDBurnerXP.

As this modified file is the intro, the DVD is supposed to play this file and then jump directly to the main menu. Problem: the DVD plays the intro but stops before the end and doesn't jump to the main menu.

The new file plays fine on my PC as AVI and as VOB (with PowerDVD).

The lenght of the new VTS_ 01_01.VOB is exactly the same than the old one but the size is a little bit larger.

Could this be the reason why my DVD stops? I didn't modify any .IFO or other files.

What am I doing wrong?

Any help is welcome!

Thanks

Alicia

There's a whole heck of a lot more to a DVD structure than just the filenames.

You may be able to accomplish this with something like PgcEdit - located at:

but be prepared for a little work (and a lot of learning).

The VOB file contains all sorts of navigation, video, audio, subtitles, etc. There are some authoring apps that are designed to do something like what you want to do, but you have to author the original DVD using their authoring software.

Hi, thanks for your answer.

Looks like a lot of fun and i was wondering if there is a simpliest to solve my problem by simply deleting my VTS_01_01.VOB which is the introduction and this way the DVD will start directly on the main menu.

Can it be done easily and how?

Thanks

The best way to accomplish this, and possibly the easiest too, is to open up the original project in Vegas, make the changes to the introductory video, render to MPEG-2 and AC3 again. Then open up the DAR file in DVD Architect and prepare again.

Of course, this assumes you have saved the source files for the introduction and the rest of the MPEG & AC3 files for the rest of the DVD.

To add to Kelly's procedure...

I recently had to rework one section of a DVD I made. I re-edited the section in Vegas and rendered it out again (Actually I use the DVD prep script --thanks again Johnny)

I went into DVDA and found the original section and did a replace media(Navigate into the section and look at the track media tab of the Media Properties and find the references). I had to replace not only the Mpg2 file but the AC-3 . --under video and audio. I then combed through the project for any other references to the original footage and made sure I replaced that media too. It actually had both media present in the project . I noticed this by looking at the size at the bottom right corner of DVDA and it was into the 6 GB range ---warning Will Robinson - So I knew that I had to find the other reference. I had a second text link that pointed to the old file and so it kept both the old and new in the project until I put it right.

I no longer have the original files, otherwise it would be easy to modify my intro.

What about deleting this .VOB file?
This is the first file on the DVD but i suppose there must be a way for the dvd to start directly to VTS_01_02.VOB, skip the VTS_01_01.

As the 01_01 is the introduction it has no influence on the rest of the dvd, the intro plays when the dvd loads, then it opens the main menu, there is no file linking back to the introduction.

I spent hours reading and downloading just about all soft I could find but i have no idea how I can delete the VTS_01_01 to start at VTS_01_02....

Actually, you might be able to accomplish everything you want to do using this nifty freeware tool called VOBBlanker. Here's the direct link to the download:

VOBBlanker Download

You copy ALL the files from your DVD to a folder on your hard drive, and then you use this program to delete the sections you don't want. You then simply copy the resulting files back to a DVD using Nero or DVDA or any other burning tool. I've used it, and it works.

See my previous post. I posted "out of order."

Hello

Cool, I didn't have to delete and was able to replace the file with VOBblanker, nice tool, very easy to use.

Thanks a lot for your help
