How to select a large group of clips across tracks?

Hi, using V4, quick question: is there an easier way to "group" a lot of different elements across tracks, so that I can insert stuff mid track?

I've tried clicking and grouping different bits, and using ripple edit, but neither works.

For example, I have say 200 a/v bits across 20 different a/v tracks.. on a 12 minute clip, and I want to just grab all of them starting minute 6:03 and move them to the right so I can insert a new video clip in one of the tracks; what's the easiest way to do that?

It's a hassle to manually click on each of the 200 pieces on the right of the project/insert area, then group them (and it doesn't seem to group them all anyways, even if I click on them, misses a few), to move them.. any easy solution?

I'll post a screencap of the timeline soon.

I'm using version 5, so not sure if this applies to 4 - but try the Insert/Time menu. This allows you to insert time in the middle of your project, at the point of the cursor.

From memory, I think in V4 it involved inserting time then rippling, but I'm not sure. The other way was to use the Selection Edit Tool (Icon above timeline) and draw a rectangle around everything you want to move then move it as a block.

Honestly Ken, it's so easy in V5 or V6 that it's worth upgrading for this alone.

Hi - thanks -- looks like that'll do it! appreciate it... good for a blanket "insert time in the timeline" .. thx!

what would be good (does V5/6 have this?) is to be able to use your cursor to scrub and then group all within that scrubbed area...
so that I could easily group all media clips to the right of the timeline at a specific place -- is that possible?

Update: hey checking, thx much Peter, you're right - Selection Edit does the trick too, that's what I was looking for...

Last q: how to automatically shrink the horizontal height of the tracks? Say I've got 20 tracks, rather than individually having to grab them and make them smaller, any easy way/ctrl key to shrink them a bit? Example, latest project has 34 tracks, I'd like to make them 1/2 height, so I can see more w/o scrolling up/down..

thx much,

ken

Or...Use the edit selection tool, left click hold and drag across the events you want to move
then let go of the button then left click on the selected events drag them wherever you want. the selection tool is on the toolbar its a pointer with a box around it.

>" how to automatically shrink the horizontal height of the tracks?"

The tilder (~) key - top left of keyboard - will minimise all tracks. Pressing the same key again will restore how they were previously.
