How to ungroup and change video speed?

There's a section of consecutive clips that I want to speed up like a time lapse. I speed up clips by holding down the Ctrl key and dragging the clip to the left. Instead of doing this for each clip, I want to do it to several clips at once. So I group these clips together.
The way I group these clips is to select the first video, hold down the Shift key and select the audio of the last video and press "G" on the keyboard. Now these videos are grouped and I can hold Ctrl and drag to the left.

The problem is that towards the end of these sped up clips, if I want to split the last clip into two clips and make the last clip normal speed again, I can't. I've tried upgrouping all these clips and holding Ctrl and dragging the last clip to the right and I've tried right clicking the video, clicking "Properties" and changing the rate from 4.0 to 1.0 but the video still plays at the fast rate.

What can I do other than splitting the video first before speeding up all the videos before it?

My guess is that moving the events as a group confused the program.

Set them all back to 1x (You may have to group them to do it) and then group all EXCEPT the one event you want to split and time stretch them. Then do the same thing separately to the event you want to give special treatment.

Just speculating. It's worth a try.
