Does anyone know if there is a way to upload footage which is on DVD? I have some DVDs I've recorded off of tv with a DV recorder and I would like to edit them together with other footage. But I can't figure out how to take DVD footage and bring it into movie studio. Thanks.
I use a Pinnacle DC10plus analog capture card which can take any analog video source (via RCA connectors) and capture it real-time to your computer. Audio is captured via your sound card. It was relatively low-cost and works okay for me in my Windows 98SE environment.
What you need is a DVD ripping tool. Not sure what all is available for Windows being mainly a Linux guy these days but there are definitely apps out there which can do this so just try a search for "dvd ripper".
I used the DC10 Plus with Studio last year, but I haven't been able to use it via Movie Studio. Do you use Pinnacle Studio to capture, or do you have a way to use it via Screenblast MS?

Actually, I use VirtualDub as it will automatically create multiple files when capturing a large video clip. I originally tried SB for capturing, but could not get it to create multiple files automatically. I use Windows 98SE and have a file size limitation and SB would stop at 2 GBytes when capturing. VirtualDub does this properly and will create as many 2GByte files as necessary in sequence to successfully capture the video.
After much trial and error I have had luck with 2 ways. Neither required software but they were ripped from a disk made by a friend/ VOB files on recordable disk. A. Copy the dvd/files to your hard drive.
1) Try removing the file extension , (in preferences), altoghther and import through the MS explorer. or...
2) Do step 1 above and type in mpg where the VOB was. or...
3) Go to the import media tab in the media pool. Change the browser dropdown to "all files", (not "all media files") in your file location. Open the file.
The third method may have worked all along but I founnd the other ways to do it first. Hope this helps.
