How to...Video FX

I am pretty familar with Vegas, but... I am trying to replicate the opening title squence from LOST...with my own title of course. I used a solid black graphic, then a standrard white text-on-black background graphic. I am able to get the text part to look pretty good, it's the slow zoom text that is the issue. Using the above two graphics, I applied a "tumble-in" transition to create the slow zoom.

I'm sure there's a better way to do this. The current method doesn't allow me to have the text get as large as I want (it truncates or cuts off sections) and the start of the slow zoom is about halfway through the time of the two graphics with the transition. Any ideas on how I can do this better?

If I were doing that I'd use a pan/zoom setup. That way you can control the speed of both the zoom & rotation as well as centering & clipping. Remember to set the key frame type to Smooth for all keyframes.

Cool! Thanks! I must say, that does work well, but VERY tedious! Is there a more automated way? Just seems that moving a couple frames, making the minor changes, then repeating the process is very long and laborious.

To get really good results, I would probably use a dedicated 3D application. There are several free good ones I could recommend: Blender (high learning curve, but excellent and active developer community) and trueSpace (Microsoft bought Caligary a while ago and now it is totally free! Some people don't like trueSpace, but I found it to be quite capable. And you can't beat the price!)
