If you visit the http://www.vasst.com/login.htm page, there are 2 separate tutorials regarding how to connect an external monitor, complete with diagrams.
It's basically just:
Firewire to Camera
CAmera in VCR mode
Camera to TV monitor
Enable external monitor in Vegas Prefs/Video Device
Press External monitor on Vegas Preview Window.

i did excatly but nothing doest show up on the tv. I dont have the connectin for red wire, only for yellow and white. But it works fine if i view my videos straight from camcorder. If i take off the wires from tv during external preview, the video will play on the camcorder lcd. what is wrong

Just a guess but could it be that your camcorder does not have pass-through? What kind of camcorder is it? Most, but not all DV camcorders have pass-through, which is what is needed to convert the DV stream to analog (NTSC or PAL) for output to a TV.

JL is exactly right. Not all cams allow for passthrough, particularly some of the consumer cams. Or, it may be that your camera has a menu option where you can turn pass-through on/off.

I am having the same problem. I have a TRV 110e. I guess this does not have pass through either??

European DV camcorders have their Firewire DV inputs intentionally disabled. There are hacks available to enable the DV input, but technically, they are illegal.

is there any way to view on an external monitor from a tv tuner card?

You can in some cases, depending on how the card manages direct show, but it's not of any value, because it's not accurate by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, the DCR TRV 460 does do pass through.
Check the threads Ext Mon through Digital8? and capturing thru a Sony TRV-460 for possible solutions to your problem.

I'm too lazy to try this right now, but how about if you firewire to a Canopus or datavideo a/d converter and S-video to TV with stereo sound? ( I"d have to move the entire room around to do this, which is why I'm too lazy.)

Yep, Vegas > Canopus > TV / Monitor / Something should work fine.
