You going to IBC?

There is a simple reason why Vegas 8 has to be imminent, and IBC is the logical launch venue timewise.

What is the simple reason?

Since the beginning of the year, Sony has been unable to support running Vegas on a newly purchased PC.

"Sorry, that's an unsupported configuration." I don't know what they actually say, but I would expect it's along the lines of, "Just return it and buy a used PC," "You may get lucky with a new PC, but if you don't we can't help you."

It's pretty amazing that Sony has been able to hold out this long actually, although this may show the lengths customers have been willing to go in order to avoid Vista before it is a mature environment.

Sony has of course been working on a Vegas version for Vista for a long time, but the effort has been magnified by the need to do so much more at the same time: a rewrite to get rid of ye olde 1995 Video for Windows code that limits everything to 8-bit and worse, and a switch for 64-bit code support while they're rewriting the code anyway.

This could end up putting Vegas ahead of everybody else's NLE in more ways.

There is no way that Stringer even knows what Vegas is. It is highly likely that if you mentioned it to him, he would define it as a place where he jets in during NAB .
