HP Photosmart printer drivers break video print

This post is meant as an aid to anyone having problems printing to tape.

I recently upgraded my HP P1000 Photosmart printer using the HP P1000 printer driver update 3.71 (contained in the file "ps305en1.exe"). After doing this, I suddenly experienced glitches when sending video to my DV camcorder via the Pinnacle Studio DV 1394 "Firewire" card. I use VideoFactory and also Pinnacle's Studio 7, and both programs would randomly (never at the same spot) output about a 1/4 second of blocky video, then run fine for 5-10 seconds or more.

I spent an entire day re-installing all sorts of things, moving cards around, checking hard disk DMA, and all the usual suspects. The configuration had worked for 12 months prior to the P1000 upgrade, so I finally uninstalled the new Photosmart drivers. Everything immediately starting working again.

I suspect the disk emulator for the memory card reader that is built into this printer, but I can't prove that. However, I can definitely say that these printer drivers caused the problem.

Sonic Foundry tech support, file this one in your database, because I suspect others may have this problem.
