HP Z1 G2 VS IMAC 27 INCH

what's going vegas family. i love SVP but me and her (SVP 12) aren't getting along. i don't know anyone using SVP period to go back and forward with when i have trial and error issues. So being that this is my only way to communicate with others using SVP, i was wondering why haven't i asked the "VEGAS PROS KINGS". i want to move up to SVP 13 Suite. However, when i look up some of the specs my machine is suspect. Not to mention when using SVP 12 on my laptop, There was a lot of lag time going on.

Processor: intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40GHz

Memory (RAM): 32.0 GB

Hard Drive: 1TB

GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE 765

OS: Windows 8 64-Bit ( its not that bad... i've seen worse)

NOTE: i'm new to all this video editing stuff. everything i know, i learned on my own by picking up a book and watching tutorials. i'm sure that's how most of you have learned to use your equipment and software as well but i feel like i'm the only person in new york city using SVP and i have no support period. people make it seem like they never knew sony vegas was a video editing software or that vegas is a joke editor program.i don't want to talk to a rep when i'm pretty sure i can get an answer from one of you guys or plan and simple just moving on to a different V.E.S. ( video editing software) or worst (MAC).

so since i'm a recording artist and producer, i've decided to keep this laptop for music recording and beat making "ONLY" here are my specs below.

so i was at a editing session with a friend and he uses "FCP X" and i'm not going to lie, it was on point. i don''t mind learning again that what this industry will do to you anyway and he was on a "MAC" and it was running like a champion. made me feel bad. here are the specs below.

Desktop Specs

Brand: iMac 21 Inch

Processor: i5

Hard Drive: 500GB hard drive1

Memory (RAM): 8.0 GB's

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 5000

OS: Yosemite

i can't lie i was bothered big time. it made me want to convert over to mac asap. i was looking at the iMac 27 inch (not the 5k see a lot of bad reviews on it) and now i'm second guessing myself to move to a mac but before i do, i want to give SVP another chance but this time it has to be a beast in a beast of a machine. sorry for the long wait.

so my question is would you go with the iMac 27 inch or with the HP z1 g2 both will cost around 3200 but i'm trying to get something quite and just sits on my desk and relax. i would build a computer from scratch but don't really know much about it and i want to a little more space in my area. if i can find a cheaper solution that will make my day because than i can move to a full frame camera like the canon 6d or sony a7s both capable to shoot raw or 4k (only for movie projects which would be rare).

I wouldn't buy either because I always build my own systems. You can't get anything off the shelve that isn't a compromise in one or the other area and you will pay 20% extra for that.

Do a search for a user by the name "Nick Hope". He recently build a system around the latest i7-5960X but I doubt a 5930K will be much slower. Important is to have a good graphic card and I can only recommend the R9 290X, if possible two of those to help with your 4K work. A branded mother board, power supply, RAM and for sure water cooling, at least for your CPU. If you like, I can put a list together for you.

That's what i was thinking. that it's best to do it myself but didn't know what parts and case and etc to get. i want it to be fast especially that i'll be using svp 13 suite. i want to get my 4k game tight but at first i need a camera for it but depending on the cost of the machine i'll have to build it will determine if i'll buy my camera this year or the next. wanted the bmcc 2.5k or 4k but hear sony isn't dealing with dng.files. the gh4 looks awesome but i hear they're having issues saving out as well. i want the low light king a7s but i don't like i don't have 4k on the fly and that shogun is a hell of a lot of money so until a cheaper solution come up (IF IT EVER COMES OUT) i don't think i'll be getting that camera. however, I've been thinking about the 6d with m.l. haven't seen a lot about the raw and how much resolution settings they have in the system but liked the raw look. also hear its a lot of issues with magic lantern which i'm scared of breaking a new camera especially that i never used it before. right now i'm using a canon t3i rebel and its getting the job done but i'm ready to move up to a full frame camera now or something with more options. but first i need a nice machine to do all of the things i want to do. and i'll look him up in a few mins. feeding my son real quick.

I used to build my own systems because that was the only way to get sufficient power for video and audio editing. Now I find that most high end systems have more than enough power and I quite like some of the high end packages from the major manufacturers. I just bought a Dell M3800 laptop and I love it. I did however double the memory and swapped out the 500GB drive for a 1TB model and added an mSATA 1TB SSD. To each his own, but these days, I like the high end stock systems. If nothing else, they tend to be smaller and more compact.

Yup, I purchased a Dell M4800 with Quadro K2100M, 32gig and QHD screen. I'll be adding the 1TB SSD soon. Great machine. Got it on sale for hundreds less than Mac Book Pro.

Get both. Meaning, buy a Mac and run Windows in Bootcamp. I switch back and forth daily on my Mac Pro (2010, still running strong) with Yosemite and Windows 7 on a separate drive. There are so many advantages to having both OS's in one machine, starting with cost and space considerations.
I primarily use Vegas Pro as an NLE, but have FCPX on the Mac side and Adobe CC running on both the OS X and Windows systems. There are often times where I can't do one thing in, say FCPX, that Vegas or Premiere can handle, and vice versa. It's like having a really big tool chest.

Yep to 4K - just taped a theatrical production Wednesday in 4K on the Sony AX100. I edit on a 1080p timeline, though, and get decent performance.
I replaced the stock video card (an old GT120) with a Radeon HD7950 Mac Edition though.
I get real time playback until I start adding any filters - So don't do any CC til editing is done.
Oh, and yes, the GPU accleration seems fine. Certainly speeds up the renders!

Your friend's iMac is garbage ( if the specs you provided are correct ) and the only reason it seemed fast was because he was cheating, using video files transcoded to something manageable, and that's something you can do too, on any windows machine.

Learn how to use proxies and you don't need to buy anything, just stick with your Asus.

I'm not sure how to do so and even if I did I'm sure I would just stick to either systems programs designed to work for the system. I would hate for something not to work because of chip setting or some type of software compatibility. look at fl studio on a mac system. it's not so good.

The best way to start off is to determine what you want the system to do. What kind of projects do you intend to work with, what kind of footage, what kind of delivery format, can you work with proxies or do you prefer with the native source, how many monitors and is editing & rendering speed important to you or your work. I am sure there are a couple more point but those are good to start with.

I want better video quality. less compressed videos. i want to buy a atomos ninja star but i haven't found a solution for prores rendering for svp. can i send you an email of my music video i'm editing so you can see what i'm looking at???

There's nothing to it, to be honest. You just boot into Windows or OSX - Apple provides the BootCamp software and drivers as part of its OS - you just buy a copy of Windows. Once it's installed you're done. I'm surprised more people don't do it.
