huffyuv and WinXP (64bit)

Anyone tried using huffyuv 2.1.1 lossless codec with Win XP 64 bit ?
I trtied putting it in both the System 32 folder and the SysWOW64 folder where some other codecs seem to reside but Vegas, Media Player, and GSpot do not see it.
It could be one of those things that is not going to work with 64 bit systems - so I wonder if someone could recommend another lossless codec that might work ?
Many thanks -

HUFFYUV is fine with x64 (and with Vegas), but install it correctly so that the DLLs are registered, don't just copy them into random directories. Download the 1.3.1 ZIP file, unpack the contents then right-click on HUFFYUV.INF and select "Install".

Remember that 32-bit and 64-bit applications do not share DLLs in x64, so the standard version of HUFFYUV will only work in 32-bit apps (Vegas for example). If you want to open HUFFYUV files with the x64 versions of VirtualDub or Windows Media Encoder, then you'll need the modified 64-bit version from:

http://nwgat.net/mirrors/okejl.dk/dunstan/huffyuv64.zip

You can install both on the same system at the same time.

".......then right-click on HUFFYUV.INF and select "Install". "

Actually that is the first thing I did - I'll try it again in a few minutes

I'm having a similar problem. I've tried installing / uninstalling Huffy 2.1 and 2.2 on WinXP 64 several times. It never shows up in Vegas or Virtual Dub. I'm not sure when this problem started... I thought it used to work. I have Vegas 2 through 7 installed. Maybe another codec is causing a conflict... although I tried uninstalling all the extra codecs I had installed.

I'm actually considering a full re-install of the OS to fix it, but I really don't want to do that!!!

Are any of you guys using SpiceMaster on your x64 system? I was using it with Vegas 6 and it worked great on my x64 box. Now I've installed Vegas 7 and run the updated SpiceMaster installer and the spices don't appear in any version of Vegas (I've got V6 & V7 on my system). Pixelan says they don't support x64. They were very helpful in working with me on this, but ultimately we got stuck. I even uninstalled Vegas 7 and ran the older installer for SpiceMaster, but no luck.

I scratched my head a little and went back over some old messages trying to remember what I did on x64. Then it hit me, if you use the "Install" right-click method, x64 installs the DLLs as 64-bit files, which they're not. What you have to do is make sure they're registered as 32-bit applications.

So try this:

Unpack HUFFYUV into a temporary directory called C:\HUFFYUV

Then bring up the command prompt and change to the syswow64 directory, so:

>CD C:\Windows\syswow64"

Then type:

>rundll32 setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 C:\HUFFYUV\HUFFYUV.inf

Change the paths and/or file names if different.

That should invoke the 32-bit DLL register and install the CODECs in the right place. One important thing to remember is that in Control Panel, the 32-bit versions won't show up because it operates in the 64-bit domain. You can still install 64-bit and 32-bit versions together, then the 64-bit version will be visible.

Thanks Stuart - I'll give that a try...

Jayster - Spicemaster 2.0 works fine on my XP64 system under Vegas 7.

Did you install it before or after Vegas 7? And did you install their update that they posted last month?

Thanks.

Jayster - hope you are not still having trouble with spicemaster 2.0 but if it helps, I think I installed it before Vegas 7 and I had applied the update. But I have since upgraded to 2.5 and the new Creative Ease - both of which work great. Crashes on Vista64 though.

Stuart - yes that worked! HuffyUV is working for me on XP 64 now.
