By the way, I also discovered a bug in the Vegas selectively prerender option (SHIFT+M), it doesn't seem to work with Magix AVC/HEVC pre-renders for previewing. The files are rendered but don't show up.

@Craig-Lewisl I came from Pinnacle to Vegas. Yes, with Pinnacle, it will render whatever you have in the background while you continue to edit. Timeline playback might not be smooth at the beginning, but once it's rendered, it will always be smooth. Then, you have smooth timeline playback for your entire project, even if you exit and restart the software. It doesn't disappear, because the rendered timeline files are saved. Yes, they can be deleted later. You set the Optimization to a level that "triggers" this action. The faster the computer, the lower the number has to be because the hardware can keep up with what you've done on the timeline.

When I came to Vegas, I missed that feature, but have since adopted what Vegas does have. RAM preview is "nice", but for me, fiddly. How much RAM do you need, to preview certain clips with effects/transitions? It has always been "hit or miss" for me. But, with Happy Otter Scripts Kwik Preview, I am content. I highlight what I want rendered to see, it does it and I move on. It was the speed in which I can edit on the timeline, access effects and see the results almost immediately, etc. that got me into Vegas. I have another long time Pinnacle user now using Vegas too.

I still use Pinnacle because I have project templates that I use every year. And for some projects, it's just easier to use. But for the bulk of my editing, I use Vegas.
