I am already scared of 9.0b

Imagine this.... SV9b is released! We download it, but to scared to click install. So we all rush out and buy a new PC just to install 9b on it.

I'm going over xfx's place and help HIM install it. ROTFLMAO!

hey lightads,

why don't we all download 9b and click install at the same time? sort of like the 'what to do in case of nuclear attack' - sit down, put your head between your knees, and kiss your arse goodbye....

welcome back spot - it's a pity that one of your first actions is to have to act as a conduit for scs.

plodding on with no ctl+z

I'm no where near "back...." and as much as I wish I was....I'm not even halfway.
Best things I can report:
-In the last week I've walked 3 miles in a current pool (water that pushes you around and around in a circle).
-I took my first shower without sitting down yesterday
-The elevated toilet seat got removed today
-I can do very short distances on a cane (dozen feet or so) and can go for a few hours on crutches. Anything longer than that, I still need wheels.
ACL/MCL surgery in about 3 weeks, so another 9 weeks to go before I can consider getting into a wind tunnel, and for my level of skydiving, I'll need half an hour or so in a tunnel before I let go of an aircraft fuselage and land a parachute.
I'll now express tremendous appreciation for Ray Schlogel for covering for me at REDucation, a RED-sponsored training event, and to equally express gratitude to David McKnight for flying here to Utah to help me wrap the Vegas Pro 9 book.
RED and Vegas are huge, BTW....Gads, it is SO MUCH FUN working with RED in Vegas, even though I'm not a huge fan of the RED One. Ray can elaborate more....

Please don't see me as a conduit with Sony. I happen to be working on the Vegas book, which has me in contact with the Vegas team, a few of whom are new people and definitely aren't aware of what we all bring to the Vegas table. But I think they're getting it.
Like I said, the team there really does care a lot about Vegas. The new VP of tech is a really great guy, very responsive, and knows his stuff. Like all of you, I'm hoping for a fast repair to this buffer/undo problem.
BTW....has anyone tried opening more than one instance of Vegas, CTRL+Z in only one, and seen what the media does? I'm on travel, and my MBP won't let me load the 9a build so I can't test it.

Spot --opened two instances of Vegas with same .veg previously saved with Gen Media Titles. In first instance did the copy/paste/UNDO -- all text reverted to preset values. Checked the second instances -- no change -- it has no effect. Each instances seems to live on its own.
-- Hang tight big guy -- I'm first in line for the new book on Vegas 9. - Paul

I just caught a greenscreen bug as well. It seems that when I place a png image on the timeline and add a greenscreen to it, only half the image will be screened out. Very unusual to say the least! Hope this one gets fixed as well.

There's a post from Grazie about masks also doing something VERY strange, could be related.

Bob.
Rory Cooper wrote on 8/11/2009, 11:57 PM
yes Bob its related

if you have a mask in 3d it tends to go wobbly if you have two tracks on the same plane or at certain angles

Well I feel like I'm editing on eggshells at present.
I'm stuck with my project in 9.0 after rolling back from 9.0a, but I'm still having to put up with a dozen or more lock-ups per day followed by close down using Windows Task Manager ("End Now" never works). If I'm lucky I get 20 minutes work done - and saved - before having to close and re-open.

I still get Red thumbnails and previews at random, usually with Generated Media, but also with stills and video events. Sometimes they disappear when I change the track height, sometimes not.

I've had Pan Crop windows with blank screens instead of showing the footage.

It feels like available memory is slowly draining away till there's not enough to continue, but that's just a guess.

It will be an immense relief when life becomes normal again.

Spot, we all make mistakes, but as you say, it should have been beta'ed.

I'm a developer my self, and I have a few royal screw ups in my baggage, including having a late night call from a customer (a telecom), telling me they were no longer routing international calls. THAT is a big one caused by the most common types of errors, make a change in one section, and not realizing at the time the influence the change have elsewhere, making it a bit harder to test for the error.
Beta testing catches most of these snafus :)

In the render, or in the preview window?

I don't know about yoy guys, but I have, a few times, been pulling my hair because the mask/effect wasn't showing, only to realize I had "Split screen view" on in the preview window.

I'm thinking Sony must've hired some out-of-work Microsoft programmers.

Perish the thought, but Vegas is now as dreaded as Vista.

Maybe someone could point the Vegas team to this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unit_testing_frameworks

Only half joking. The term is regression, and from the outside, as it relates to regression, the SCS team isn't looking so hot these days.

Then try reading this thread.

THANK YOU!!! I was about to go mad trying to figure where my phantom cookie cutter was. Turns out it was this preview setting.

If they really care about Vegas and the people that use it why not leaving the format of the custom render templates as they were and transferable to 9.0 as they did in all prior Vegas versions?
Jeff9329 wrote on 8/26/2009, 8:22 AM
IMO you guys are crying about self inflicted wounds. Everyone knows there are going to be issues in the first few iterations of a new release.

And everyone knows the if it ain't broke dont fix if saying. Im still on 8.0c because I just dont have time to mess around with a new version when the old one mostly meets my needs and is stable. I can't wait to install 9.x, but not until it's a final product.

You guys have way too much free time.

I agree with Farss and blink (and Jeff).

I've always been pretty mercenary about software upgrades. I'll buy if there's a cheap offer.

My wife has a saying about some of the HORRIBLE fashions inflicted on our eyes every day: "Just because they sell it doesn't mean you have to wear it." Amend that to say, "Just becaues you buy it doesn't mean you have to use it."

Buy the upgrade, and then wait for the stable version. If you do this EVERY version, it's just as long a wait as if you jumped in before all the kinks were ironed out.

Hi,

Here in northern europe it is already the 28th of August. Is it today that we should be scared of? Or hope for?

Seriously speaking.... lets hope the SCS people have had enough time to fix the serious issues in VP9.0a. The anticipated 9.0b release date IS today. Don't get me wrong - I do not want SCS to rush out this bug fix, as they did the former one (with no beta testing).

The question remains, can we anticipate a release soon? Any data on this from any other sources that just rumours? "Possibly earlier" has passed already...

I have been holding back two bigger projects where Vegas 9 new features would be required, but because of know reasons, it would have been too risky. Even the 9.0b WILL be risky, and should not be used for any serious work, before you get confident and see how it real´ly performs.

I sincerely hope SCS gets it right this time. Vegas deserves it - as we users do!!!
