I am still facing this PAN & CROP error. Even After 122

Hey Guys...

Please Look at this clip

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/5a6a7c84-088f-4d95-b76f-636a9cb490b9

why VEGAS cannot be adaptable for this kind of media?

look what I face every time.

I have to transcode media files to start editing in VEGAS.

With due respect, I will suggest VEGAS Devs, at least make VEGAS show a message before importing media which can affect VEGAS workflow, which tell user about media condition and change media as per VEGAS needs with user consent.

I can observe the same thing as in the video, and Preferences -> File I/O -> Enable legacy AVC decoding should fix the problem.

With due respect, I will suggest VEGAS Devs, at least make VEGAS show a message before importing media which can affect VEGAS workflow, which tell user about media condition and change media as per VEGAS needs with user consent.

Actually there is, but it only alerts you to transcoding certain formats that are not suitable for efficient editing. Your video is a bug which VEGAS developers didn't expect.

Yes, going back to legacy AVC decoding does work, but that shouldn't be the solution.

iEmby wrote on 9/9/2024, 6:02 AM

yes, agree with you guys

I shoot it in OnePlus 7t @ 60fps.

never face these problems before.

for my clip @zzzzzz9125 can be right. that it has bug as I transcoded this clip and try again. it worked.

but my point is at least VEGAS should give notice to user about the unsupported media.

even you will notice some more things like

In legacy Mode ON

  • it will correctly import media as portrait mode as my original clip is.
  • It added the media on timeline correctly as portrait mode and make project properties same as portrait mode when match settings same as my original clip.
  • It counts its fps as 30fps. same as my original clip has.

In legacy Mode OFF

  • it will incorrectly import media as wide mode opposite to my original clip.
  • It added the media on timeline incorrectly as wide mode and make project properties same when match settings.
  • It counts its fps as 29fps. opposite of my original clip has.

I don't think, this is my clip's bug. as @zzzzzz9125 observed.

it is VEGAS bug.

what you guys said?

you can look it

or test it yourself.

I never said the clip had a bug. VEGAS has a new media decoder from version 21.300 and newer (Mxcompound) which has bugs with certain media. Legacy mode is an older decoder (so4compound) which had years of testing and improvement (introduced with VP 15).

Helping find the bugs with the new decoder is very important so thank you for your findings. Could you also share MediaInfo so we can see at a glance what type of media is having trouble?

You are right.

The error is in VP22. I tried VP21 b208 and everything is ok there.

@iEmby your file plays back as in your video when dropped on the timeline in VP22.

There is a "workaround" though until this gets fixed.

Check mark in File I/O to enable Legacy decode. Drop your clip on the timeline. It should appear and play back properly.

Save your project, exit Vegas.

Reopen your project and change the Project Video Properties to 1920x1080. You should be able to add another clip like the one you supplied, and it should now appear properly. At least it does when I added for the second time, your clip to the timeline.

@iEmby

"as i want to try Legacy Mode OFF more"

Perhaps you can still do that by converting the Variable frame rate clips to constant frame then importing into VP..

Ok, I did that. No quality loss. No use of Legacy Mode. Converted VFR to CFR, rotated 270 degrees (required an mov extension, metadata changed), no transcoding. Then imported into VP 21 b315.
