I can't burn my files to my 8.5 disk (error message 80004005h)

joe-winko wrote on 1/18/2023, 12:49 AM

I'm using Dvd Architect Studio Version 5.0 on Windows 10

I'm trying to burn my DVD project on an Kodak DVD-R Double Layer disk with 8.5 gigabytes of space (which should be more than enough to fit my 6.6 gigabyte project...) BUT whenever I try to burn it on a disk, it gives me this error message (80004005h)

how do I get it to work? what's causing this issue?

Please help ♥

From two of the old posts I looked at, presumably it can be taken that your media being used in DVDAS 5.0 is DVDAS compliant and that there is no possibility at all that the DVD disk that you are using is a problem. Have you tried using another DVD-R disk? Also, is your DVD burner's driver compatible with your current computer's OS version particularly if your current computer's OS is Windows 10 or 11. Many pre-Windows 10 hardware didn't survive the transition to Windows 10 because the manufacturer didn't update the drivers.

this is the DVD burner that im using.. are you saying it might be too old to burn with an 8.5 gb disk? it worked fine with the 4.7 sized disk.

do i have to replace it or something?

I also DID try using another brand of a blank disk but it still didnt work, but that time it gave me this error, saying it was "too slow" So i'm assuming my eternal DVD burner is the issue. I'm trying to figure out what DVD burner I should replace it with but every single one I found has an Optical Storage Write Speed of 8x & I can't find any that are faster than that...

Is the Optical Storage Write Speed something i should be paying attention to when figuring this out?

Instead of burning from DVDA try "writing" to "Prepare" in a folder then use external software to actually burn your disk from the folder contents. There's the much recommended ImgBurn which is free and recently updated https://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

As for write speed I always burn discs at a speed around half their maximum write speed.

@joe-winko  ... I looked Amazon's webpage for that DVD burner and it looks reasonably up-to-date (though discontinued) in that has USB3 connectivity and states that it is compatible with Windows 10. The main information given about it relates to which disks it plays, but there's a lack of information about its burning capabilities. You might want to check its user manual to make sure that it can in fact burn to double layer disks particularly when its not specifically mentioned that it can play double layer disks.

That was also my impression. I haven't used Imgburn for a few years but from memory it was good at telling you what any problems were.

Another thing @joe-winko could try if it's in DVDA5 - Options/Preferences/Burning and toggle the "Use legacy disc drivers" option.
