I cannot register any of the plug-in in Vegas Video v3

I have tried this several different ways. Before I
activated Vegas Video whenever I tried to register
a plug-in (Sonic Foundry MPEG Plug-in 1.1 for
example) I got the message "Wrong Product". I then
activated Vegas Video then I get the following
message "License is an Activation Code". I tried
the "Register from another computer" method and
then I get the following message
"Incorrect Serial Number or Computer ID"
on the web page when I try to submit.
How in the world am I supposed to get the
plug-ins registered? All of this registration and
activation is a major pain.

I have two things for you:

MPEG REGISTRATION PROBLEM

You don't need to register the "Sonic Foundry MPEG Plug-In 1.1" because it's residual, probably from an old installation. No one can register it because it's neither used nor supported anymore. However, it's been replaced. The new MPEG plug-in is from Main Concept, and it replaces the old one from Ligos. If you'd like to remove the old one so it stops bothering you, do the following...

1. Open Windows File Explorer.
2. Where "X" is the letter of your drive, navigate to X:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\File Formats3. Look for a directory named "MPEG" and open it. There should be a few DLL and AX files inside. One should be named "gomotion".
4. Delete this folder, or move it to another location. Your Sonic Foundry applications will no longer try to use it.

Now you'll still need to register the Main Concept plugin. You can do it using the following steps:

1. Open Vegas.
2. Put a video file in the timeline.
3. Select the "File" menu, and choose "Render As".
4. From the "Save as type" pull down menu, select "MainConcept MPEG".
5. Hit the "Custom" button.
6. Look the the lower right hand side of the dialogue box, by the logo. You'll see a "Register" button.
7. Hit it, and follow the instructions.

VEGAS REGISTRATION PROBLEM

There could be several responses to your problem. Since you have Vegas already, I'm assuming you downloaded it. In that case, after your purchase you should have gotten an e-mail with an activation registry patch. Did you get it? When you patch that file, your registration SHOULD be complete. Downloaded software usually doesn't ask for a license code, and it only asks for activation codes if you didn't elect to use the registry patch. Perhaps you should try a fresh reinstall, and do the following things in order:

1. Uninstall Vegas and reset your computer.
2. Reinstall Vegas and reset your computer again.
3. At this point, do not start Vegas. Open the e-mail you received with your purchase. It should be titled "Sonic Foundry Serial Number Information".
4. There should be a file attached. It's the registry patch. Open it, and integrate it. Vegas should now be registered.
5. If you choose to instead enter the codes manually, scroll down through the e-mail. Listed will be your license code and activation code. One, the other, or both will be needed to complete registration this way.

There you go. Try something from above and let us know how things turn out. There's more that can be tweaked and messed with, but we'll just start here. Keep us updated.

Thanks. That resolved my problem.
There seems to be some *.mpg that I cannot
add to the timetime. It that normal ?
Is there anything I do to be able to do so ?

Yes, the behavior you describe appears to be normal, for now at least. I experience the same thing. Lemme guess... You can't add MPG's that lack an audio stream, right? I have yet to fully understand what causes this, but from what I've gathered by looking at other posts, it appears to be a small bug in the Main Concept MPEG Plug-in that will be corrected in the next update. Don't quote me on that though. I need to swallow my pride and e-mail tech support for a real answer. If I find out anything concrete, I'll let you know.

I managed to get my Ligos plug in working with VV3 and it will handle those MPEG files that the MC plug in cannot handle (namely the ones without an audio track).

The MC MPEG plug-in opens MPEG files that are video only but does not open MPEG video elementary streams. Normally, video elementary streams have the extension .m1v or .m2v but sometimes .mpg.
