I got my Media Player. And now what?

Hi

I tried this thingy from WD and it looks like I can use (almost) any format for my videos.

My camera gives me some choices a.o.
1920x1080i mit 17 MBit/s
1080/50p

What should I be rendering to, for best results, assuming I'll use the Media Player instead of DVD/BD?

Cons and Pros? (I've read "OT: Media Players vs Blu-Ray / DVD (Opinion Poll)" already, here I mean the Output Formats

Tell us about your TV. Does it support 1080/50p?

The only format my WDTV doesn't play is DV(avi).

If so, why not use .ISO files? The video would have to comply with the DVD or BD standard, of course.

Yep…straight from the cam to view I do that all the time. AVCHD no problem smooth playback.

For Edit and rendering from Vegas you can use mp4 select custom HD 1080 or 720 if your screen can handle 1080 or 720 both will give very good images. Some folks have done comparison rips between divx and mp4 and mp4 came up tops, although divx 720p is also very good

You can also be pedantic and render DNxHD mov. Select rec709 If size is an issue convert the mov to mkv.

That is beside the point, be it off the camera or off the harddisk, the question was about formats. Sorry for my poor Englsih :-)
