I have flat lined, have pity. please help a newbee

I caputured new video clips to add to file. Then opened up project that I had already started and now the top line has waves and the bottom was just a flat line. I am a nurse so I know a flat line can't be good. it playes very loud I can't figure out what I did. I'm ready to start over but don't want to make the same mistake again. Or at least I want to be able to fix it.

I am sorry, Yes it is the audio of the captured video.
The top line has very big waves but the other line is straight.

OK, let me see if I understand. You have a video track and an audio track in your project. The audio track is divided into two channels (left on top, right on the bottom). The left channel (top half of the audio track)displays a waveform, the right channel (bottom half) contains no waveform data. Is this correct?

When you playback your project do you hear audio through both speakers? If you look at the meters in the mixer in Vegas, do you see activity on both channels?

What did you use to capture this clip?

Yes, you are correct about the waves. The sound is comming out of one speaker and seems a little loud but not distorted. I looked at the meter and bus A is showing movement but only on one side. I used the video capture 2.0 Sorry I am not explaing this well.

Possibilities..1.-your camcorder maybe set to record one channel, 2.-you used an external mike, and it's my understanding that when doing so only one channel is recorded, even if it's a stereo mike. So you're essentially saying, " I believe I recorded stereo sound, but only one channel shows" ?

You can pick up a mono to stereo adapter at Radio Shack for your camera. Tip, mark the adaptor in some way so you know what it is when sitting in a pile of adapters.
