What's in the AVI file? AVI files are just a wrapper - they can contain lots of different things. It may be that Vegas doesn't have access to the codec used to store the sound in the AVI file. Download a copy of Gspot and it will tell you what you have in the AVI file.

It is probably a DIVX file.
