The "i" "o" keys work on the timeline for the in/out points but oyu need to dsouble click on the grey seleciton area bar between the in/out points to select the area & then s to split. The "[" and "]" keys ALSO do it in the trimmer. do it in the trimmer

would be nice if hitting "s" would slice in both parts. Hitting "r" for region automaticly makes a region out of the in/out points (but it doesn't add two markers, fyi)

If the bottom line is that you want to make a selection using just the keyboard, then put the cursor where you want the selection to start, hold down the shift key, and put the cursor where you want the selection to finish.

The manual describes all of this in wonderful detail. I actually printed the thing and read this stuff when I get a chance.

By the way, the update to the manual (for V7b) has only one significant change in the text. I'll mention it in a different post.

"I" for In-Point, "O" for Out-Point, "Shift+Q" to select the range, "S" to split both In- and Out-Point then.
