I know this has an easy answer!

I've taken a while off using vegas...and I cannot remember how to do this...So ANY help is so greatly appreciated!

I have 2 video tracks...One from ground level one from balcony. I would like to fade back and forth to the different tracks...

The shotgun approach I've been using is to cut the section from the lower track and drag it up to the higher track.

I seem to remember a way to fade back and forth between tracks, but it escapes me!

There are several ways, and what you are doing is certainly a valid way. You could also cut sections from the upper track and then add fades to the remaining sections. Also, you could add a video compositing (opacity) envelope to the upper track, add pairs of nodes where you want to fade in and out, and drag the blue line up or down as appropriate.

OK. If I go in compositing mode, can I set multiple nodes along the timeline? I guess what I mean is can I do multiple fades in and out...

Use a compositing envelope to fade back/forth
Use the split/then numpad 8 to push the split section up from lower track
Use split on upper track, and delete media so media on lower track shows through holes.
Turn on automation, record opacity shifts using the opacity/level control on each of the video headers.
For two tracks only,
, Ultimate S, or Excalibur can all accomplish this too.
