i-Link capturing in MPEG-2 format?

I have a Sony TRV-340 Digital8 camcorder. I have VF 2.0 with MPEG-2 rendering. When I use the i-link cable to capture to VF, will it be in MPEG-2 format or something else that I have to render to mpeg-2? Also, How good of video quality does VF capture with the IEE 1394 interface? What settings should I use to get the best capture quality?

Thanks, Cody

The quality of capture is great. You get exactly what's on the camera. It's captured in dv-avi format, which you can edit as you wish & then export as mpeg2 or other format.

There are no settings to worry about. Using i-Link isn't really a capture so much as it's just transferring the digital video file from the camcorder to the hard drive. You end up with a bit-for-bit copy of what was on the tape. Can't get any better quality than that!

Great!

Thanks for all your help.

Don't know if anyone has told you yet, but the file you end up with will be an AVI. The DV AVI will be 13GB for every hour, so I hope you have a good amount of storage space available.

I bought an 80GB drive primarily for video work.

Is there a way to capture a digital tape in fast speed as opposed to to real time in Vegas? I have a Sony TRV-340 and I remember a friend telling me that when he had Vegas 4 (pre-Sony) he was able to get fast capture speed tranfser of the tapes. After he upgraded to Vegas 5 he was not able to and everything was in real time. I tried my camcorder with his computer and it was in real time. I want to get Vegas 5 for myself and was hoping that I could get some info if the fast speed transfer is possible.
Thanks

I'd be very surprised if it was possible without special equipment - the camera can only play back at real time.
