I love Sony Vegas but....(crashes, resource hogs)

I've been a happy user of Sony Vegas for many, many years and several versions. Along with Photoshop and Cakewalk's Sonar, it's what I spend the majority of my time with on my computer. And like those other programs, is usually a joy to work with.

I never had much problems with latency in the preview window, even when using effects...just the occasional hiccup or burp. I've also noticed that with my collection of NewBlue FX plugins, if I use the OpenGL version of those plugins, I'm sure to get a crash. The regular NewBlue (non-OpenGL) versions work fine.

I just got Vegas Pro 11 (missing the discount code by just 2 days....grrrrr!) and the new feature that I most looked forward to was NewBlue's ProTitler. Wow, talk about grinding to a halt! I put just two words on an overlay of a still image and animated the text to rise from bottom to top in a short 30 second clip. It won't even show in the preview window, it just hangs at the last frame prior to the text effect. The only way to view it is forward the clip, one frame at a time. I can't believe that this plugin is such a resource hog! Could it be a leak/bug?

As I've said, I never had much trouble with latency before. I'm run Windows 7-64 bit on an AMD Phenom II 945 3.0GHz (Quad Core), with 8 GB of ram. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 5850.

Any suggestions or advice on configuring either Sony Vegas or my computer to have the software run smoother, with less crashes, would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
Lee

Hello Lee,
We both are in the same boat. I am experiencing the same problem that you have plus my rendering time way high without any fx on a single track when I do to mp4. I sent a mail to the forum admin. I hope Sony going to release a new build to resolve the VP11 rendering and other performance issues soon.

Hey Siby, thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. I'm glad I didn't uninstall Vegas 10 yet, I think I'll continue to work on that version until they get the bugs fixed in v.11

In my experience it usually takes a month or two before most of the major bugs are gone from any new version. Certainly not Sony's pattern alone, almost all software tends to be this way.

Very good idea to hold onto 10 until you are sure 11 is stable enough to rely on.

Crashing on me also while my Pro 9 works perfect!

Sorry to disagree with the post and the apparent acceptance of releasing software with major bugs. From what I have expereienced with VP11 so far, it never should have been released.

Calling the current release software with major bugs is an understatement. It would be more correct to say the current version (425) is unusable.

Hey Rich,
For a second I thought your post was going to say that you have no problems with VP11 and that you disagree with me saying there is nothing wrong with it. (And it must be something I'm doing)

I guess I'm just used to seeing too many of those kind of posts. But anyway, it sounds like you are having more trouble than I am, sorry to hear that.

It's toughest on people like me (software junkies) that HAVE to have the latest versions of their favorite software and can't seem to control themselves from buying something as soon as it's released. Because not only am I not really taking any advantage of the new features, but the release is much less stable than the previous version. And I paid almost $200 for this situation.

Yes I know, whine whine whine. I'm sorry, I hate to sound like that, but it's just so frustrating!!!!

Those green flashes when trying to render using GPU (Nvidia 560T1 with latest beta drivers, and Vegas 11 64 bit (425) on Win 7 64 bit make version 11 an unusable product and one that is definitely NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.

It's unbelievable that Sony have the audacity to sell such junk software at such an outrageous price.

For any serious work i have to use v10e until 11a or b or c gives a product which is usable.
