I'm Doing Something Wrong

Good day, and Happy Holidays.

Ok... On to "business."
I'm trying to deliver my first Widescreen DVD, and I can't seem to get it right.
Currently, when I burn the DVD and pop it into my DVD player, displayed on my Samsung widescreen plasma, the video is vertically squished.
Flipping back and forth on the display, between 16:9 and 4:3, the vertical hight remains the same, but on the 4:3 the sides are obviously pulled in.

In Vegas 7d, I have my timeline laid out using the "NTSC DV Widescreen" template. All looks swell.
I render out using the MainConcepts MPEG-2 type and "DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream" template.
Settings are Default, 720 x 480, 29.970, 16:9.

Shouldn't this be correct to get a 16:9 DVD on my DVD player and dislpay?

My self-imposed deadline is past (midnight last night), so any help is most appreciated.

If you place a disc you know is widescreen in the same player how does it look?

If it looks the same, I would look at your dvd player's settings to see if it is set correctly as you stated you were changing your TV settings.

If it does not look the same and is displayed correctly, I would go back into DVDA and see if it is flagging your footage correctly.

It's probably your TV set to view 4x3.

Try a TV setting like Actual or Full or Zoom

A widescreen DVD from a major studio looks great on the DVD/Samsung combo.

It's gotta be a setting I'm missing.

Flipping back and forth between 16:9 and 4:3 keeps the same vertical height, but just brings it in horizontally - which looks right, but now I have black bars on the left/right as well as the top/bottom.

No black bars in Vegas then, correct?

Maybe DVD Architect set to a 4x3 project instead of 16x9? What does the preview in DVDA look like?

It's a mystery.

It works now.

After 3 hours of fighting last night (admittedly at 3 am) and an hour this morning, I gave up and wrote my note here.

When the replies suggested I had the right work flow, I went back, deleted all renders, all DVDA projects, all - well, everything except the original project, I started from basic scratch, paying extra attention to every minute detail - especially what the resulting MPEG looked like in DVDA.

FINALLY it looked right in there, and burned a full 16:9 DVD that looked right on my DVD player/monitor.

Thank you for the help - it let me know I was on the right path, and just needed to find the devil in the details.

I can breath again. THANKS!
