I must be doing something terribly wrong....

janjansen wrote on 9/17/2002, 1:26 PM
A few things I don't get in VV3:

- How do I prevent the cursor to jump back to the last starting point after I press the spacebar to stop? I want the cursor (playhead) to stop where I stop it, not jump back to it's staring point.

- How do I detach the audio from the video?

- How do I prevent video in the timeline from having these thumbnails in them? Can't they have just a basic color?

Thanks for the help.

Jan Jansen

1) Use pause instead of stop.

2) There is an option to ungroup the audio from video. I forget what it is called, but it is one of the icons on the toolbar.

3) Don' t know.

Just one more thing:

- Whenever I pause the video in the timeline, the previewwindow doesn't show the exact frame I pause at. How can I prevent that?

Jan,

Q: How do I prevent the cursor to jump back to the last starting point after I press the spacebar to stop? I want the cursor (playhead) to stop where I stop it, not jump back to it's staring point."

A: Press the "Enter" key rather than the "Space" bar (You can use the space bar for this function by going to "options/preferences/General" and selecting it as an option)

Q: How do I detach the audio from the video?

A: Select the events that you wish to ungroup and press the "U" key (Or right click the event and select "Group/Remove From")

Q: How do I prevent video in the timeline from having these thumbnails in them? Can't they have just a basic color?

A: I don't believe you can do this

Thanks for answering!!! Can you also answer the other question? In the second message?

The preview window will show the frame that the cursor is over, it might depend upon your reaction time and the computer reaction time on whether you pause on the frame you intended.

Thank you all so much. One or two more then:

- How to re-attach video that you just detached from the audio?
- How to apply a transition and differ in the lengt of the transition.

Thanks for helping a newbie in VV3

Jan,

Q: Whenever I pause the video in the timeline, the previewwindow doesn't show the exact frame I pause at. How can I prevent that?

A: Not sure what you mean...the frame count seems pretty accurate on my system

To reattach you have to create a group. Select the video and audio event that you want using CTRL button (this allows you to select both) then use the GROUP option.

Jan,

Might I suggest you work through the Tutorial Chapter in the Manual. It answers all these questions and quite a bit more.

Real A: Go to Options/Preferences on the General tab. Uncheck the box that says "Draw waveforms and frames in events". Then you will not see the little pictures OR the audio waveforms - just empty boxes.

To preciously control what frame appears in the preview window.

1. click roughly where you want to be on the timeline.

2. Holding down the Alt key click the left arrow to go backward, right arrow to go forward.

If you have enabled the status bar under the preview window it will show the actual frame number. If not enabled right click anywhere in the blank area just above or below the preview window and you'll see an option to select.
