Not really sure what the purpose of the video is. Are these for the resorts to play or sell?
My first critique, get a tripod. Shaky shots like the opening and the water are just hard to watch with that much movement.
And get your finger off of the zoom control.
The slides, at least right now, do not make sense so it is hard to give you ideas without knowing the intent of the video.
I agree about using a tripod.
Shaky cam is OK for home videos but my guess is that this isn't supposed to be a home video.
I found the dark blue titles very hard to ready.
Use a thicker font and brighten them up.
What is the second shot supposed to be?
Whatever it is, I found it way too long.
The long gaps between the segments are annoying.
Crossfade the music from clip to clip so that there's no blank spots.
Slow down on the live camera pans and zooms.
It's a slow piece and the shots don't match the music tempo.
If you have any natural sound, use it, especially on the shot with the jet ski.
I really apprecite your comments!
Nor for the resorts to play neither to sell!
All I want to prepare a good demo BD, then I'll send to resorts,
then in case of they like the BD they call me make BD for them!
So this demo should be very impressive:)
I was confused by the switching of titles and subjects.
The "urge to fly" made me think of the yearly migration of a butterfly
species. A small jib would be better than the handheld movement.
When it takes off follow it allowing the background to blur. Airplane
shot at night??? Lost the story intent.
Girl on beach still...I'd use the beauty of the sparkling water below
her arched back but that was lost in a still image.
Too much zooming. I'd use sweeps with a jib if at all.
Jet ski...I felt left behind as someone else was having the fun.
Rent another jet ski or raft and follow the rider.
If you want to have an impressive video and have others look at it seriously you need to think less is more ...the effects are way over the top and unnecessary. When you use effects they should add to the video not become a distraction . Also try and think sequence's when shooting, a wide shot of the seadoo and then a jerky zoom into it won't do.
Good luck and props for putting your work up for critique
I really appreciate your comments and advises!
There was an Eurovision winner song of Anne-Marie David,
"Tu te reconnaitras".
With your comments "Je me reconnais, vraiment"
(How do you say it in English!!)
Thanks for sparing your time!
As a result, this video will be a demo BD and I'll send it to resorts & travel agencies as BD!
It is originally m2t but could not download to vimeo as it exceeds 500 mb!
it's very tacky, the schmaltzy music would sound more at home in a lift, and for goodness sake, get a tripod.
oh, and don't use wobble cam shots composited with steady ones, very distracting. and just because you have dj backgrounds doesn't mean have to use them....
i really don't mean to knock your efforts, but you'll never learn if no one tells you.
All I can add is this.
You want a shot from a plane, you need the heavy metal i.e. gyro mounts. This kind of work is the realm of big budgets with lots of heavy metal. I saw some such footage a couple of days ago. $60K for a few seconds and it was for exactly the sort of market you're trying to get into. Those resorts look pretty high price, they spent a zillion making the place, you have to match that expectation if you want to sell into that market,
I'm sorry to be blunt but you've failed at the most basic thing in business, know your market.
The other thing is what the heck are these hotels going to do with a BD disk, show it in the lobby? The people there are already in the hotel. You need to be able to go to them with a marketing plan. TVCs, trade journals, web etc. This is what agencies do, not us video guys. The agencies hire a production company and they hire the guy with the camera and the director etc.
- As mostly everybody else said, you need a tripod with a fluid head and learn how to use it. For a beginner, this is a good choice: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/146249-REG/Velbon_VMATE_607_F_VMATE607F_Videomate_607_Tripod.html. The shot from the beach where you see the pier, which is a beautiful scenery, is very shaky and when you pan to the left, the horizon doesn't look straight, which is distracting.
- The choice of music would be good if you didn't use so many different tracks. The second track is the best, you should use only that one.
- The font use looks very amateur, especially the way they form into a phrase.
- The way you use the zoom looks very amateurish. You have to either use it slowly or not at all (at least for this type of video).
Nor for the resorts to play neither to sell! All I want to prepare a good demo BD,
I agree with all the comments above but the most serious problem is the concept. Who is the audience? IF this is a demo -- what does it demo? The piece is not finished. How do you demo something that is not finished. It seems what you have here is, as you say -- a "free form" work. It's an art piece. Personal to you -- shaky camera and all .. You, my friend, are the best audience for this piece. You must have feelings about these images. You might consider adding a short voice over of personal reflections -- thoughts --- that express your feelings. Finish it and file it away. Look at it again months from now. See what you think then. Ask yourself then -- what was I trying to say?
