I really can't understand why...!

Often, when I have a long project (more than 5 min), during the rendering (it doesn't matter the codec) I get the message 'error... make sure U have acces to the drives and U have space on the drives', or something like this.

Well, I have acces to all the drives and I have space.

So, why it happens?

I have no problem with project shorter, but when the project use more than one source, maybe from others network drives, after 20 or 30 min of render I get this message, without any apparent problem.

Question: may I use Vegas for SERIOUS project?

Yes, you may. I've used Vegas on project that are over 90-minutes long with no problems whatsoever.

I've used Vegas an 2 hours stuff no problem. It's something with your computer config.

I've had similar messages - it might help us help you better if you could be a bit more precise about that message you are receiving. Is Vegas complaining about the drive to which you are rendering or to the temp drive.

My problem involved my pre-render folder located on a drive that was nearly full. To further complicate matters, I was going to the wrong drop down menu in an effort to change the location for this folder (you need to go to File -->Properties).

Just thinking out loud - don't know if this is your particular problem or not.

It's definitely an indication that you have part of the Vegas render process pointed to a drive that is either full or not available (not available as in media files, for instance, required for your project that might be stored on a firewire drive that hasn't properly enumerated or has been dropped by your system).

Since you have success with shorter projects, I suspect that we're dealing with a full (or nearly full) drive, not a dropped or unavailable firewire drive.

Good luck in finding the problem - previous posters are absolutely correct that Vegas is very appropriate for longer projects. Let us know when you've narrowed down this problem - we'd like to know what was causing your troubles.

How much space is on the drive Vegas is using for it's TEMPORARY files? By default, that will be on drive C. Is that drive full? Or nearly full? Try changing that setting so the temporary files are written to a different drive.

3+ hours here, no problems.

My 2 cents:
Temp and prerender drive(s) nearly full. As well as destination drive.
Do you use an old Windows? Older versions can't handle too large files.
Are your drives formatted to FAT or NTFS? FAT can't handle large files either.

I've never tried with networked drives but I use two internal and one firewire without problems.

Are you using networked drives and network rendering? I once had an issue where I tried to share a whole drive over the network and had similar problems. It turned out to be an OS setting in Windows on buffers or something that was too low by default. But I don't think the error message was returned by Vegas. Just a thought.

BTW, I may not have 2 hour projects, but I have a 21min project right now that has no problems. But they do eat lots of drive space and you do need to watch the FAT file size limit of 4G when working with uncompressed or DV.
