this happened to me a few times today:

i was editing my project and without warning, vegas inserts all of my media from the media pool onto the timeline, sometimes in more than one track. yes, ALL of the media.

Need more specifics!

-OS
-Input devices
-Any other iregular system performance
-Any changes (New apps, removed apps, virus, etc...)

I have seen bad mice do this before, mouse button sticks and drags everything.

Anyway, I have never seen VV do this.
