I think I've approached 5.1 SS incorrectly...

I had better start from the beginning. AC3 is the standard format for Dolby Surr. Sound, correct? Vegas can save a file in AC3 format, but Vegas cannot read an AC3 file??

But I guess my ultimate question is even more basic. How do I marry an HDV file to an AC3 file, so that I have, in the end, an HDV-formatted, 5.1 surr. snd. high-definition video.

And finally, is transferring that ultimate HDV file to HDCAM a big deal? Or just a simple transfer?

Normally in Vegas, you have to build your AC3 file from your source files.

You have an HDV file you shot. Where did you get the AC3 that you have to match up?

If they are matched video to audio, load the HDV mpg in DVD Architect. If the file names match, DVDA will automatically associate the AC3 with the video mpg. You can validate in DVDA if the AC3 is matched with the mpg in the video clip properties.

In V7, I was able to use the new 5.1 surround feature in the DVD import function. Set project properties to a 5.1 audio setting, import from DVD, load the mpg to the timeline, and all of the 5.1 channels appear on the timeline. Very sweet. I guess you could burn just your 5.1 to a DVD, reimport it into Vegas, and toss the resulting video track and save the 5.1 audio.

Sorry, I don't have HDCAM info, but do I get a free pass to your website anyway :) ?
