It's a look ahead so never any distortion. But there are no real adjustments* (thus idiot proof). Just drag threshhold to the left and everything comes up.
Yes, it is not perfect for absolutely every type of material - see the little * above - but it is great for a quick small, no learning curve fix up.
Put some hard gating before it and you can really get things brought up, espeically crazy dynamic badly recorded dialog.
