Ignorant newbie frustrations on .mov and audio issues.

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish.

I am rendering a small video. 15fps. I want to have it in .mov format. I also want to compress the audio the best it can be.

So, after consulting someone they told me to compress to .mp3. However, when I go to set custom settings on audio, .mp3 isn't an option. I've tried to compress the audio first by rendering in .mp3 opening it and adding it to the project and removing the original audio from the project. No matter what I do on my custom settings in audio I spike up on size when I render to .mov.

I've probably spent 5-6 hours attempting to tweak the settings and render this lil clip with no luck :(

Here's more detailed info on my rendering settings.
Video = Using Sorenson 3 frame size multimedia 15.00
Audo = I've tried every compression setting available including uncompressed since I tried pre-compressing the audio to .mp3 before rendering to .mov. Main sample rate 22,050, 16 bit, Stereo.

This clip is only about 38 seconds and after a black pause on the beginning it spikes the file size to 13mb. On 6:1 audio compression it doesn't spike so hard but still ends up at almost 20mb for the entire file. I don't quite understand why I would need to compress the audio more since its compressed already down to a 1.4mb file.

From what I've seen others that use mac Final Cut Pro, the file size is MUCH smaller for that length of video.

Why is there no option for .mp3 compression in the audio section of the custom rendering section? Is there a way to add a plugin for this? And yes I have the full registered .mp3 unlocking the 30 trials on the main render as.

btw-I've tweaked the video settings every which way and it doesn't help or hinder the problem. Audio however seems to make a huge difference. :(

Help before I pull what little hair I have left on my head.

TIA

if you have quicktime pro, you can manually insert a mp3 audio for your quicktime video. It's a workaround, I'm actually trying to discover a better answer for the same problem.

mp3 isn't a normal audio path for Quicktime files. "Someone" gave you the right advice for the wrong format. QDesign Music 2 audio and Sorenson video is the customary combination here.

Quicktime (Sorenson video) is a higher quality format than the usual .mpg or .rm stuff you find on the internet. Since you've opted for higher quality video at the expense of a larger file size, you won't gain much with more audio compression in order to to save a few kb. 20MB is unusually large for a 38 second rendered video. You should look at your video dimensions and compression ratio before focusing on the audio.

Here's a suggestion: Download some of the movie trailers, both high and low res, from apple.com and go to Movie/Get Movie Properties, and see how they did it. I have learned a lot from the parameters the pros use.
