iLink problems

My son in law has a near new Sony HDR-HC9 which continually gives trouble connecting to the firewire port. Sometimes works ok and others not. Tried a number of computers and leads all which work ok on my old Digi 8s. The cam obviously sees the firewire as the "connected" icon on the screen comes up but the computers dont recognise the camera. As I said it has worked in the recent past but not for the last few days.
Any one any ideas?
Thanks, Brian

F$^%$^%G VISTA?!?

Sorry, not very helpful I know but VISTA just drives me nuts so often.....

Could it be an 800/400 issue?

Why do you say Vista? Brian is using XP.

Knee-jerk reaction - most things these days seem to be Vista's fault! ;-)

I didn't see the OS mentioned in his post.....??

I'm running Vegas 8.1 and recently purchased a Canon HV30. I have experienced similar problems connecting through firewire. You might try resetting your camcorder to the factory settings, and be sure the export settings are correct for the type of footage you have shot. What worked for me recently was doing a System Restore on my computer to a time before I first tried to capture video from my new camera. This seems to have rectified whatever mistakes I initially made, at least for now.
